Kathy Falkenstein Memorial Grant

Clinical Research/Clinical Project

Goal:

To fund clinical research/clinical projects which:
1. Improve child health care
2. Improve pediatric nurse practitioner practice; and/or
3. Promote visibility of the pediatric nurse practitioner role.

Purpose:

To stimulate clinical research/innovative clinical projects by chapter members.
Collaborative efforts among chapter members will be encouraged.
The research/project could include any clinical area in which pediatric nurse practitioners practice.

Award:
A maximum of $500 per grant, once per year, will be awarded
to a PA-Del/Val chapter member (or group of members).

February 15

Chapter's Annual Spring Dinner

Evaluation Procedure:

Evaluation and ranking will be by at least two committee members plus the chair, based on their areas of expertise.
Funding will be based upon meeting goals and criteria.
If no proposals are appropriate, there will be no grant awarded that year.
Unfunded projects are eligible to resubmit in future years.

Evaluation Criteria:

Research/projects will be ranked by:
1. Potential to impact child health care and PNP practice,
2. Feasibility,
3. Scientific merit/innovative clinical approach,
4. Soundness of budget,
5. Results that would lead to professional publication or news media coverage.

Responsibilities of Award Recipients:

Individual/group receiving the grant will present the results to chapter members
at the local conference or meeting one year from the receipt of the award.
PA-Del/Val Chapter of NAPNAP must be credited
for the financial support in all published outcomes or presentations.

Conference Grant

Goal:
To provide partial funding to PA DELVAL members in good standing for expenses related to National NAPNAP conference attendance

Purpose:
To encourage volunteer participation in the PA Del Val chapter.

Award:
A maximum of $500 per grant, once per year, will be awarded to a PA-Del/Val chapter member selected by the members of the grants committee using the rubric below.

Deadline for Submission:
March 1

Date of award:
Following annual NAPNAP conference each year.

Evaluation Procedures and Policy

  1. Applicants must be members in good standing.
  2. Applicants will submit a 500 word or fewer essays via email (link on chapter website under grants section).
  3. Topic of essay: Why member believes she or he deserves the award and how the member will contribute to the chapter after the conference.
  4. The winning member to be actively involved in a committee in any position for the duration of one year.
  5. Members of the Executive Board are ineligible.
  6. To receive the award, the winning member must submit National NAPNAP related receipts to the Chapter Treasurer who will reimburse the member for expenses.

Evaluation Criteria and Procedures: Essays will be evaluated blindly by at least two members of the Grants committee or Executive committee whose scores will be averaged.  In the event of a tie score, another member of the executive committee will be asked to score the submissions and the essays will be ranked again as needed.

Responsibilities of Award Recipients:
The grantee agrees to participate actively as a volunteer for one year after the award.
